Mississippi Coalition for Interior Design Legislation November 16, 2006 Dear Design Community; It truly is an exciting time to be an Interior Designer in Mississippi! As you may have heard, on August 18, there was an informational meeting held for MCIDL and the proposed legislative effort. Thirty Designers representing all geographic areas of the state were present to learn about the proposed legislation from concerned designers as well as Clare Hester of Capitol Resources on the legislative process. MCIDL is a political action committee, which supports the legislative efforts of Interior Designers within our state to ensure the health safety and welfare of the public whom we serve. The coalition is necessary to insure that the profession’s voice is heard in the political process. It is the responsibility of each and every Interior Designer in the design community and industry partners to support this effort. We have invited leaders from our professional organizations to attend our meetings in order to facilitate communication and to benefit from their contributions. We trust a better understanding and more meaningful relationship will be derived from these efforts. To be effective MCIDL must continue to be supported and funded. Your support allows our message to reach those whose support is necessary for the passage of this legislation. Those who do not understand our profession and are not aware of our efforts to maintain and improve the professionalism of interior design may perceive our proposed legislation as threatening. The issue of the health, safety and welfare of the public is our charge as interior designers. We must make every effort to keep our position a positive one. Your contribution and support of this effort will insure that the voices of designers across the state are heard and understood by citizens and elected officials of Mississippi.
